Curling is easy to learn and is perfect for all ages. A corporate curling event experience is definitely unique!
With as little as one hour of ice time your employees, colleagues and clients can learn the basics of delivery (throwing), sweeping and skipping (strategy); followed by “ends” of game play. No curling experience is necessary to take part in a corporate curling event.
With training and encouragement from our instructors, curling provides an outstanding setting for team-building with your group. Curling is an interactive sport, and covers a range of experiences: leadership, communication, trust, problem solving and decision making.
Team-building events can have multiple benefits – they can improve the way a group of people works together, boost productivity, increase employee job satisfaction and enhance communication of business goals and objectives.
McArthur Island Curling Club six sheets of ice is the perfect venue!
Curling is an Olympic winter sport that can include everyone; from office staff to operations or executive retreats curling offers a memorable experience that is fun for all. McArthur Island Curling Club can also combine regular curling with wheelchair curling. A recent innovation has been the development of curling adapted for the disabled. If you are unable to deliver the stone normally you can use a pole to push the stone down the ice. This enables those in wheelchairs and those with bending disabilities to enjoy curling.
Our Corporate Curling Events are coordinated through the McArthur Island Curling Club, along with our experience on the ice, the McArthur Island Sports Center offers full catering and a variety of function spaces for pre and post curling meetings and socializing. The Curling rink is best suited to groups of 48; however, options are available for smaller groups to use a portion of the rink, or for larger groups to play in shifts (mini bonspiels).
Corporate Curling Events can be packaged with a meal, meeting or both!
Corporate Curling is very affordable and our on-site restaurant and lounge facility provides the perfect package as we can tailor a meal and refreshments to meet your needs. The McArthur Island Sports Centre offers high quality foods that are good for the body and pleasing to the palate. The facility holds up to 200 people. Your group will smile as they sink down into the leather loveseats and feast on a myriad of succulent savories, hearty soups, salads, Italian artisan breads, hot pressed sandwiches, globally inspired wraps and meal creations, and of course, delectable desserts. We offer full service catering for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The lounge floor space is ideal for hosting meetings, receptions, refreshment breaks or just for kicking back and relaxing! The sizeable lounge is equipped with audio visual technology including a 120” flat screen television and is large enough to create 3 or 4 break-out sections for your conferencing needs.
Curling is a game of skill, precision, fitness and fun!
Having fun is one of the quickest and easiest ways to foster exceptional relationships. A successful team building event can help your employees and colleagues develop the specific skills to build a team-oriented environment, in which everyone contributes to the overall success of the organization. It should be enjoyable… fun is one of the quickest and easiest ways to foster solid interpersonal relationships. If you’re looking to try something new, then visit McArthur Island Curling Club.

What to Wear – Layer Up!
To ensure you enjoy your time on the ice. Layer up! During the lessons you may be standing around for a few minutes watching the instructors. When you start to curl, you’ll warm up again. Wear a light jacket or fleece that you can take on and off as you need to. Wear loose pants! You need to be able to stretch easily. If you’re worried your hands may get cold, bring a pair of gloves or mittens just in case.
Our ice technician spends many hours making perfectly flat, clean ice. You will need to bring some clean shoes; running shoes or tennis shoes are ideal.

Here are few tips to keep in mind when putting together a team building event:
- Hold your team building event off-site – getting away from the office will reduce distractions and make it easier for your employees to open their minds to new ways of thinking.
- Make venue selection easier by starting with a list of what you’ll need (size and layout of space, technical equipment, catering facilities etc.).
- Keep the day interesting; balance serious sections about the future of the business or troubleshooting workshops with a fun social activity.
- Include some physical activity in the day to keep energy levels high. Take into account the ages and fitness of your participants and choose an activity that will suit all levels.
- To extend the impact of the team building event well beyond the day, hire a photographer or cameraman. Email the best photos around and post them on your website, or give hard copies to the participants so they can take them home and show their families. Show an edited version of the video – with music and graphics – at the next group meeting or social function.
- Consider engaging a motivational speaker to whip up a bit of excitement and inspiration. There’s not much that’s more stirring than listening to a good communicator talk about their path to success.
- Schedule follow-up sessions after your team building event to re-emphasise the lessons learned on the day and assess the team’s progress.
